#187775 - mislabeled packaging
Responding to: ???'s previous message
On a couple of occasions, we've had mislabeled packages delivered from DigiKey.

In one case, the part was completely wrong. I think we ordered connectors and got some ICs or something. The outside label was for the part we ordered; the inside label on the parts themselves was correct for the part in the package and not the order. Obviously their pick-and-place robot was having a bad day.

On another occasion, the part we ordered was an SOT-23-5 and we received same. All packaging indicated that we received the part we ordered. But the parts tended to explode once power was applied. Close inspection of a non-blowed-up part showed a different 4-character code than what was supposed to be on the part, so instead of a reference, we got an op-amp or something. DigiKey had no explanation for the mix-up. We ordered cut tape, not a full real, so our guess was that either the wrong reel was in the location or the robot wanted to keep us on our toes.

In both cases, DigiKey told us to not bother sending the wrong parts back and they overnighted the correct parts.

PS: in the second case, our bin for that particular poison part was not purged and my board was actually the second to have it installed. There was much yelling that day.
