Well for 1 simple thing like serial port that has been around for decades, I expect to set the chip as the datasheet claims and go, no further tests should be necessary.
How do you do your serial port routines? do you vary the crystal frequency to check limits?
do you vary temperature, do you kill yourself verifying the chip?
There isn't much room for mistakes in software from my side I'm no beginer.
I did write a simple serial program that keeps sending a sentence to hyper terminal, no interrupts or fancy code, the problem repeated itself. I even tried to make PIC side send data with 2 stop bits and it didn't work except when I add 1 msec delay. My time is very limited, I'm so busy with other projects. But when I have the time I will repeat the experiment and display waveforms and code. I will do it very soon.
