Yes: AFAIK, it is a Keil proprietary product - only compatible with Keil tools.

I think not - see above.

AIUI, the J-Link is just a re-badged Segger device - so you might have more luck there.

But it seems to me that debugging really is the Achilles heel of the "free" tools: yes, open-source solutions do exist - but they require an awful lot of faffing about to find & configure all the right pieces.
This really does seem to be a case where it's only "free" if you don't value your time.

In the paid-for tools that use the "free" GCC stuff, the debugging does seem to be what you're paying for...
