#181738 - Datasheets critical to have Responding to: ???'s previous message |
A rule of thumb that should not be ignored:
Never, ever, buy a module that you don't have access to all required documentation for. Never! You want documentation about the hardware: Physical dimensions, supply voltages, supply currents, temperature specifications, reset requirements, certifications, sensitivities, ... And you want documentation about how to use it: What commands or protocols it uses, required timing, buffer sizes, error codes, register addresses, register definitions, ... Any company that can't supply you with the required information (some may require you to sign a NDA) are companies you don't want to work with. The probability that you will get stuck is much, much, much higher if you don't have proper documentation. It does not matter if it is a school project or a commercial project. Documentation is a requirement. Any teacher who supplies hardware without the proper documentation is no good and should be told to start behave as a professional. Any product manager/developer who selects a component without documentation is not worth his/her salary. Any seller who tries to peddle components without documentation is a fool or just plain evil. |
