Oliver's point was not (just) that there are lots of 'C' compilers available (which, of course, there are) - but that there is a huge "ecosystem" of other supporting tools available.

I once worked for a company that decided to use Ada for noble reasons. It's a great language, but the idea floundered there because of the dearth of tools to support it.
