recommended weekend reading
What is your favorite debugging anecdote?

reading? I' consider this weekend writing

anyhow, here's one:

many, many moons ago there was a unit that blew up about 200 chips (out of several tgousands), we replaced them. About a year later the same happened, we replaced the chips and all power supplies. About a year later it happened again. Then I was sent there to find out the cause and after a few days of investigation I came to the conclusion it had to be related to the ground connection. This unit was installed over a double floor with a grounded copper grid below. OK, I borrowed a key and a tile sucker and went in on a weekend and started looking around under the floor. after some hours I found a wire going up connected to the grounding grid and i concluded "that must be it". Not having access to the upper floors I closed up and went to the watering hole. Monday I traced the wire going up and Lo and behold it was the grounding of the lightning arrestor
