#180439 - Do not say that to a Ham Responding to: ???'s previous message |

Internet have removed the need for high-powered radios to get in contact with unknown people in other parts of the world. Many ham radio operators would like to argue that point with you!! Radio operators use radios for many very interesting activities, one of which may very well be communications to places where there is no Internet connection!! I know for a fact that some ham radio operators may be communicating with other folks by radio at the same time they are on Internet chat to the same people at the same time. Also know that radio offers two communications modes for hams. There is voice and then there is CW code transmission. Both quite different from the experience of an internet connection. Even though with Skype we can have voice communications over the internet. (Although from what we have heard in the last day or so that option may no longer be possible to all parts of the world).
