#179470 - I would not consider USB a real "BUS"
Responding to: ???'s previous message
Everything looks real fine with the manual, but one promising result that I did not find out was how fast can it trigger? One can take 125MHz data with two channels, but how long does the data take to get off the USB considering that they are probably using a combination of a parallel A/D mixed with a cookie cutter FPGA mixed with some micro-controller. So, since it is not PCI or PCI Express, I would not consider the triggering rate to be fairly high. That being said, they probably try to make up for the lack of rep rate with the use of SRAM that the FPGA can utilize. This, of course, is a no-no with real world applications. Depending on memory to build up a data file is ridiculous and in my opinion is considered a toy, but thats only in the case of high speed data acquisition. Considering how fast you need access to the data and seeing if the memory is large enough for your application is a must, but this doo-dad is only $350. I'd bite the bullet and buy one to see how it works because it would cost you much more to develop one. They have to use the same conceptual circuit topology, but the way they make money is by buying and creating cheaper silicon. So, the micro-controller is off-brand, the FPGA might be off-brand, the SRAM is definitely off-brand, etc. If you did want to develop your own....

You can use either PC and/or VGA when you develop your own.
