Many times for the "insulating sheet" application such as shielding the back sides of eval boards you can easily use single side clad PC board material. One side is just nice smooth FR4 and the other side is copper. The copper side can be grounded in some applications to great advantage.
Sometimes when I need a piece of FR4 that is completely copperless I take to peeling the copper off the single side clad board. It is relatively easy to get under the edge of the copper laminate with an XActo blade and peel it off the FR4 with a pair of pliers. Note that many PC board fab shops are happy to give you the trimming strips and pieces of clad material that normally just go into their recycle bin. I have also found many walk in "surplus electronics" type stores that sell trim scraps from some near by PC fab shop. Michael Karas |
