USB, Ethernet, I2C, SPI, RS-232, Firewire, SATA, ... are just some of a very long list of different "serial ports".
Just because data is sent out serially doesn't mean that two serial interfaces are compatible. You have differences in speed, voltages, framing, modulation, connectors, physical medium (electic, optical, radio, sound waves, ...), use of protocols, ... |
