Indeed you are correct. Using the F005's internal oscillator as controlled by the internal bits to get it to oscillate is not very accurate.

Using its oscillator as driven by a crystal is perfectly excellent.

Sorry for contributing to the confusion.

We tend to use external oscillators to drive both the micro and an FPGA so I just forgot about the use of a crystal.
