Good beer takes a week before you bottle it, and then maybe another couple of weeks to mature. There's a lot of home beer brewing here now that starts right from malted grain to finished beer. The old method involved a can of a concentrate which you diluted with water and fermented. The proper grain versions are indistiguishable from any decent beer.
