#174400 - Beads... Responding to: ???'s previous message |

1. How critical is the gap between the conductor and the ferrite bead? If the hole diameter is 1.2mm and the conductor is 0.6mm or 0.8 mmm or 1 mm, to what extend will the air gap affect the performance? If there's a gap, then the magnetic field sees no need to travel within the magnetic material. So, a bead that fits tightly is better. Raj said:
2. Is it recommended to take the conductor through the bead from the bottom, and at the top end, wind it around the bead back to the bottom for vertical mounting? Veritical mounting is only an option, if there's a minimum distance between the input and output terminals. Otherwise you get couple capacitance, which erodes the dampening at high frequencies again. 5mm distance of corresponding solder pads (copper to copper!) should be enough for most cases, though.
