Hi Andy,

You are right, CS5460 is for Power/Energy Applications.

I am a free-lance product developer, and many of my clients come to me for redesigning their current products. And they bring their current product as reference.

And believe me, I have seen atleast 5~6 weighing scale manufacturers that use this IC.

I think, since it is used for Energy metering, the consumption of this IC is more, hence the price is low (here in Mumbai) compared to >12 bit ADCs. That must be the main reason for this IC being used in Weighing scales.

And if you try to purchase >12bit ADC, there is this High MOQ (Minimum Order Quantity) that plays a big role. But CS5460 has a very low MOQ.
