As I asked before, please show us the wiring diagram, the code, and the results you are seeing. This is a very, Very, VERY simple problem and, if you're using 4k7 pullup resistors, and a relatively slow (<25 MHz) MCU, stray capacitance is not going to be a factor, even if they're series resistors as Per suggested.
