what is the ideal way for documenting the software? Well, of course, this is one of those areas where there is no One True Way. I tell my engineers: When you are working on a project done by somebody else, then you expect the documentation to be done in a proper way. So when you work on a project, do the documentation in the same way, so that the next engineer's life becomes easy. I think that's a pretty good principle on which to build your particular practices for software documentation! I doubt whether days of flowcharting are over They have their place, but they are certainly not the only way and (usually) not sufficient on their own. |
