In Sweden, there are a lot of old houses that has the original wiring from 1930 or earlier. They can continue to be used as long as they are left untouched, but if someone starts to make changes, then the regulations require that the wiring be updated to todays standards with protective earth etc. Not just Sweden has 70 year installations. I did a rewire for a friend a few years back where alll the internal wiring was run in metal conduit - a requirement that lasted for 5 years or so in the late 1920s ! UK installations are supposed to be inspected and tested every 10 years, how many are, I don't know. Steve |
