But, of course, using colors for distinguishing between wires has way too much momentum now, and possibly patterns are more difficult to manufacture. It is hard to do something about the huge amounts of cables already in existence. It will probably take 150 years to recycle 99.9% of the existing cables (unless they suddenly finds a problem with the isolator material making existing installations suddenly start to self-terminate). In Sweden, there are a lot of old houses that has the original wiring from 1930 or earlier. They can continue to be used as long as they are left untouched, but if someone starts to make changes, then the regulations require that the wiring be updated to todays standards with protective earth etc. However, I don't the new requlations enforces replacement of some of the older wiring as long as they have the required cable areas and a green/yellow earth wire. |
