#164259 - USB is polled every 1ms ... Responding to: ???'s previous message |
... so turnaround times for query/response stuff can be much worse on a modern PC with an USB to serial adapter than on yesterdays PC with real serial hardware.
With that 1ms in mind f.e. consider throughput if a download routine checks a character echo... In addition one or the other millisecond maybe lost due to a quirky operating system or due to a quirky usb driver. USB to serial adapters on a modern PC are not in the same league as a real serial adapter on yesterdays PC. Yesterdays two/three digit MHz systems with 16550 or 16650 hardware in some applications dance rings around todays multi core, multi GHz bolides with USB adapters. |
