#163536 - Likelihood approaching 100% Responding to: ???'s previous message |
In the case of slot machines and casino gaming equipment in general which use PRNGs, the chances of someone acquiring access to the machine is almost a certainty, approaching 100% as the payout increases. Considering that progressive slot machine payouts in Nevada can range from 10-20 million USD, investing in a machine to look for a weakness is "chump change".
Any device has to be maintained. That means schematics for technicians. Combined with reverse-engineered code there is no security in obscurity. And no, you can't hide the code either...gaming regulations require that gaming device firmware be removeable so it can be verified against a known good copy in the case of a dispute. FYI for a simple poker slot machine it takes about 2 weeks to crack one wide open...not that I would personally know anything about it. |
