Chico, this PIC "solution" looks like lowest cost crap! If I'm right, than there's no comparator inside, but the threshold of a digital inverter is used to determine the charging time. I'm convinced, that this methode is extremely inexact and drift sensitive. I would not use this scheme in anything more than a toy.
