This gives Microchip a much stronger 32 bit presence.
It also may be the end of the MIPs architecture for 32 bit devices. According to the analysist conference call today, the AVR appears to be of interest to Microchip, so it stays. I guess that the 8051 will become a cash cow until it goes away. |
