I have migrated from CVS to Subversion, and in my opinion Subversion is superior in all respects. This is not too surprising as the creators of Subversion looked at all the shortcomings in CVS and came up with improvements. The aspects I particularly like are:

Subversion manages entire directory trees. This means that files can be moved or renamed without loss of history.

Subversion makes no distinction between text and binary files.

You can browse the Subversion repository easily, and you can even mount it as a file share with auto-versioning.
