Ethernet is just the very bottom layer of the protocol "stack" - you need several more layers and protocols before you can actually do anything useful! And then you also need some appreciation of how things like routers etc work to actually make a network of diverse computers hang together. You don't internet-enable a microcontroller for ease & convenience of implementation on the microcontroller - you do it for ease of access from other systems. If you don't need that ease of access from other systems, you might be better off choosing an easier interface... |
