#156871 - Expensive Chip... Responding to: ???'s previous message |
30$US is a pretty hefty price for this device. Most cost sensitive embedded projects will be hard pressed to try to apply this device and its required surrounding components.
While it may look attractive at the initial peek I would suggest that if one wants to make a GUI applet type of embedded product you really should look strongly at a simple SBC (single board computer) type of PC variant. There are many of these available and end up being extremely turnkey. One recent board I looked at could simply boot up DOS or an application directly from a CF card and was in the cost range of what an embedded system with this add-on chip would be. If you really want to keep cost in line then drop consideration of the cheap sub-vga type displays and use a GLCD (graphics LCD) that has an onboard controller that rescans the display for you. Now with a few KBytes of code in your chosen MCU you can be off and running. Michael Karas |
