#156043 - H-1B visas Responding to: ???'s previous message |
The large LED company (YESCO) in Las Vegas moved their assembly to Utah. But yes, their signs are all over Vegas, both on the Strip and around town, even on billboards. Basically they are outdoor TVs.
Chances of foreign employment? In Las Vegas, especially if the company is involved in Gaming, practically none. Most of the engineering jobs for gaming related equipment require background investigations (I had to get one). Not likely a company would go to the expense of an investigation just for an H-1B job. (And if you have a gambling problem, count on a very short term of employment at a gaming company.) And that's the bad news. To get a US technical job you'd need an H-1B visa, company sponsored, and those are on a quota system. A quota that's filled in a few hours when it comes up each year. And the worst news of all, it's a federal election year and H-1B visas are a sensitive political issue in high tech areas of the country. There are plenty of US citizens competing for the same kind of job you'd like to obtain. On the other hand, I've seen virtually no discrimination against foreigners working at gaming companies, PROVIDED they already have a permanent visa or are citizens. About a tenth of the tech employees at the company I work for are from eastern Europe. |
