#154039 - Sounds like.... Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Sorry to confuse with a funny expression.....
"Sounds like....." is an expression that is used in a discussion between two people where one person has heard what the other has said and then either draws a conclusion or asks for a confirmation of what was heard by saying "Sounds like .. I heard you say.." or "Sounds like we can then conclude...". This expression was clearly derived for use in verbal conversation where the one party has actually heard what the other has said. Another similar expression is "Looks like...." which would usually be used when one person has seen something shown by another. Neither of these is a particularly good adaptation to the modern activity of forum discussion where it is probably a good idea to use carefully chosen words to say what we mean. If an expression of this type was to be used it really should be more as "Reads like...". Unfortunately I do so much "forum talking" these days it sometimes seems that I am actually "talking" to the folks here and so a fast response sometimes reverts to using expressions that are related to that supposed perception.
