You may find it interesting to read this thread over at XTVBTalk where in there is nice discussion about config file and program state storage. In this case there is a complex multi-machine network that suffers from process corruption by frequent power glitches. This is a great example of an interactive web discussion that led to the OP finding a cost effective solution to a nasty problem. Now while this does not relate directly to the subject posed by Peter Huijssen here it is well worth a quick read!!
