Wikipedia routinely allows people to publish pseudo-facts that are patently incorrect, and, subsequently, prevents offense to the person posting the false information by preventing proper correction, which might offend the person who posted the error.
Consider the definition of Manchester code, for example. Oddly enough, the majority of definitions on the www refer to the original incorrect definition, rather than to the IEEE standard that provides the correct information. The result is a definition on the order of, "most people seem to believe that 2 is an odd number, but some authoritative mathematicians have shown it to be even." This sort of thing is not particularly helpful. RE |
