#147677 - A query on Network bridge . |
( Note : I had already posted this on a Networking forum but yet to get a reply. )
Let me explain the setup. - The internet connection is an ADSL line terminating in a 4-port router-cum-modem. - I normally connect to the internet through a LAN setup on one of the ports. I then decided to go Wireless : - Bought a D-Link DWL2100 Access Point and plugged into one of the existing router ports. - Configured the Access Point to link to the router. - Successfully started browsing the net from my Wi-Fi enabled notebook. I then wanted to log on to the LAN to share files on the PCs linked to the other free ports of the router. - Connected to the WLAN on my notebook. - Also plugged in the RJ45 link from one of the LAN ports of the router. - Set up the WIN-XP software bridge to link the WLAN and LAN. So all well and I now can browse the net as well as share files to the other PCs on the router from my notebook via Wi-Fi. Very happy. I then ( by mistake ) plugged out the LAN cable from the notebook. Normally one would expect the software bridge to collapse. But no !! It simply said that a "Netwrok cable is unplugged " and worked normally with only my Wi-Fi connection. I still could share files over the LAN. How is this possible ? With the LAN cable pulled out how is the bridge accessing the other 2 PCs on that network ?? Raghu |
