The reason I don't use ATMEL for anything is because of my experience with an ATMEL ARM processor, and with how I was treated by their team. First of all, their design team was FRENCH.
That means that their native language was "the language of diplomacy," meaning that nearly everything they said was, in one way or another, a lie. They claimed their product was perfect ... though, in the end, nearly nothing they included in it worked properly. I'd advise you to use someone else's ARM until you are thoroughly familiar with the ARM. Once you have the architecture committed to memory, know all the instructions so well you don't even need the assembler in order to patch your code, and know, exactly, how long everything takes, then, and only then, might it be safe to attempt to use an ATMEL ARM.
