which is really a writeback operation and takes extra time. Read cycles were on the order of 1.2 microseconds while read/restores were 2 microseconds or thereabouts.
IIRC, plated wire memory was faster. These devices require voltages, IIRC, that are uncommon in today's technology, and likely to generate a fire. I remember meter-high flames rising from a computer when the core driver board developed a shorted driver transistor. I suspect this technology is not to be used in this case. RE |
