It should be obvious that there are two ways to extend the life of a battery:

1. Use a bigger (ie, higher-capacity) battery;

2. Reduce the power drawn by your system.

Of course, combining both will give the most gain!

Again, it comes back to considering the requirements of your system:

Is it just to give sufficient time to allow the user to finish whatever they were doing?

Does it need to continue in full operation, or could it go into a low-power mode to maximise battery life?
