How many bits can be transmitted by a 8255 in 0.5msec??
about two :) Yes, but those are very well thought out, informationally rich bits. I though on the concept of information content of a bit, when I read a fat book on a particular software product (but the same applies for most of the data which fills up the gigabytes++ disks these times). A page of written text, that's about 1kB of data, isn't it. Now this page was wery nicely laid out, with all those separated paragraphs, various typefaces, headers, footers, margin comments etc.etc., not to mention pictures (screenshots). That's many many kBs, maybe MBs, per page. Yet, the real information that page conveyed was infinitesimally small. It basically said the same what can be read in the "Windows' Bible" on windows navigation, plus what can be read in the menus and windows themselves. The added information was, well, maybe a sentence or two. That's around 100 bytes or so. So, the average information content of a bit on that page might well be around 1 millibit... :-) Jan Waclawek |
