If you are suggesting salvage No not salvaged, the LCDs based on the Philips part PCD8544 has become very popular, the Nokia 3310 is one of them. Brand new LCD's along with the connectors are available in volumes (or in single piece)here in Bangalore, India, for around 2 US$, I have made a precision acrylic moulding for this, placing two white LEDs on the upper side provides neat backlight.
