#126275 - Hmmm... Responding to: ???'s previous message |

They did not publish the innards of the chip (including the processor(s)), so the usage is limited as per firmware provided. But just look at the number of posts here asking, "how can I connect a USB memory stick to my 8051" - clearly, there's a big demand for that one! I think their idea is that their unit is an add-on; it does all the USB stuff - you do your own stuff in your own processor. A bit like adding a modem...? OK maybe it's available against NDA but I am not going to find out at the moment. I think it is a big mistake from FTDI not to make it public but that's my personal view, arguable. I guess the big problem would be USB protocol compliance - if they let every Tom, Dick, & Harry write code in their processor, how can they ensure that the protocol compliance remains intact? Maybe they could do something like Wavecom's Open-AT, which allows you to write applications to run within a Wavecom GSM unit without affecting the GSM stack, and all its compliance issues... http://www.wavecom.com/modules/m...TSoftSuite |
