Then your control circuit can use the SCR/Triac to control the temp. In my case I had an old 60W iron. It had enough thermal mass to it that a few quick solder joints wouldn't cool it down significantly, and the dimmer allowed me to keep it from getting so hot it burned out tips. I have a commercially made soldering iron "regulator" that is basically a light dimmer and outlet mounted in a box. Sure a Metcal soldering station is the way to go. But sometimes our budgets don't allow that... Dennis |
