For a long 485(Half Duplex) Network (with around 150-200 node)and
i think stubs and termination will be more of a problem than the cable. I take it you have read 10 ways to bulletprood RS-485 (dound under best serial appnonets in <--- links).

The cable MUST be twiated or you are going to get 'funny stuff' happening at any speed beyond slow.
