One thing about wire jumpers is that one would like them to be straight. Another is that one would like them to avoid going under components. A third is that the holes to which they'll be soldered may need to be larger than the default size, though, with a single-sided board, that may not be an issue, since you will only have holes where you have pads to which to solder. Just set the default via size to be a size that accomodates the wire size you'll be using. You can configure the OrCAD router to minimize the number of vias, and to keep the number of layer changes small. It will attempt to do that, though it will probably not succeed in all cases.
