I read recently that engineers go through four ages:-
1. Unconscious incompetence
2. Conscious incompetence
3. Conscious competence
4. Unconscious competence

Which I took to mean:-
1. Thinking you know everything,
2. Realising that you don't.
3. Getting things right when you stop to think about them.
4. Having the right answer off the top of your head.

The real trick is working out where you are and how to keep moving upwards.
