#116608 - Several ways Responding to: ???'s previous message |
OK, the scammer gets your bank account number - but how do they actually get any money out of it?
Several ways, depending on the gullibility of the victim. 1. Ask for lots of small payments (fees/bribes/etc) that are necessary for the "big sum" to arrive on the account of the victim. 2. Ask the victim to grant them access to the account because "it's necessary to transfer the big sum there". Depending on the country's banking system: 3. Directly withdraw funds from the victims account. Usually, this type of transaction can be cancelled by the victim, which is why they usually use a second victim as an unwitting accomplice - they talk the second victim into doing the transfer to his account and then send the money to the con-men. The first victim cancels the transaction, and the accomplice gets screwed (and probably put in jail, too). |
