Dear Andy,
Now after your post i refered to my text book of system programming. Its old John Donavan book and it doesn't has the word Directive in its index. All the standard Directives are called Pseudo-op and it defines a pseudo-op as A pseudo op is an assembly language instruction that specifies a operation of an assembler; it is distinguished from a machine op which represents assembler a machine instruction. clearly new facility of differant types of jumps in machines created the neccesity of JMP pseudo op which is used to instruct the assembler to select correct type of jump by certain algorithm to reduce the programmers headache. This Blurred the definition. Abhishek |
