Erik, while I agree, the life is unfortunately more complicated than this. This philosophy would work, if the manufacturer would take the pain to collect all relevant information and document and present it in a comprehensive form. For example, here, browsing to the AT89C51ED2 "folder", the document in question is there, but, honestly, would you expect a description/diagram of ISP circuit under the "Hardware Interface Connection Examples for C51 MCU" codename?
