#112401 - I liked 'em too ... ... Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Whereas I didn't tell them anything of the sort, and I did have my problems with Insight/Memec, particularly after Memec took them over and essentially eliminated outside access to all their online information resources, I liked 'em better than Avnet.
Their evaluation kits, as compared to Avnet's are as good a comparable measure as you'll find. Avnet's boards were poorly described in the literature and just as poorly documented. When the documentation appeared, the boards were not avaiable, and, by the time the boards were available, they'd take the documents down. They were probably adequate if you wanted to do what they wanted you to do. Insight's, on the other hand, would keep their "features" out of the way. The Insight FPGA board that I've got is a pretty decent one, allowing you to disconnect most of the "load" that their board provides, het making it available if you need it. When Insight was Insight, they didn't bother you, and they didn't get in the way. Avnet's always been a pest. What's been worst about Avnet, however, is that their field sales people didn't know much and couldn't keep their mouths shut. I hate it when I hear rumors about my internal personnel matters, etc, from outside. RE |
