I agree with Hal and Richard, try to get a sample from the Dallas family.
And for the UART I recommend to use a USB-UART coverter from FTDI, e.g. the UMFT230XB - FT230XQ based USB to basic UART module: http://www.ftdichip.com/Products/...odules.htm It's not very expensive (£7 at the FTDI webshop or €10 at farnell.com) and can give power and communication to your MCU.
