... these say they have nominally 5 pf capacitance to adjacent connections. That has to be taken into account, as signal can couple in as well as out, and the oscillator pins are essentially the inverse of one another, in the DIL-40 package, and on adjacent pins. That can impact oscillator behavior. If you're using pin 17 for anything, that can have impact as well. Mostly it's in the startup that trouble will show up if at all.
