As per the coding standards specified by Netrino http://www.netrino.com/Embedded-Systems/How-To/Bug-Killing-Standards-for-Embedded-C rule #2 - As a strongly typed alternative to numerical constants, we had substituted #define with 'const unsigned char code' in our project code.

Is there any issue with #define usage? Why Netrino chose Rule #2
