There are lots of code available that converts a unix epoch into year, month, day, hour, minute, second without introducing a large number of small, constantly overflowing, software counters. Probably, you only need to do the conversion when you actually need to display a date/time - internally, you could have your system work entirely with the 32-bit "UNIX Time" (and as many of the fractional-seconds bits as you may require). |
