In addition to switching the serial port Rx line, the modem could use the modem's flow control lines to halt the modem's output while the MCU is not listening. It might also be worth monitoring the RI line (Ring Indicator) to check for an incoming call while the modem isn't listening... Edit: I meant, of course, "...the MCU could use the modem's flow control lines..." I think this keyboard's had too much christmas pudding... ;-) |
