#168883 - Don't guess! Responding to: ???'s previous message |

Looking at the OPs posts and the information given to us, I guessed that this is the only possible solution for him at this moment. I don't think there's enough info to even guess at that! Andy Neil said:
Maybe mailing a pen drive is a perfectly acceptable solution in this case?! Kiran V. Sutar said:
!!! I don't think this will be the solution. Because, if you have to transfer the data daily The OP has not mentioned anything about how (in)frequently the data needs to be sent. how are you going to send the PenDrive daily? Just keep a "buffer stock" of pen drives (in case of postal delays), and have the central site mail back the drive as soon as it's read the data...? Perhaps he could use Avian Carriers - see RFC1149. I think the OP is the best person to answer this. Absolutely - so no point in guessing! He cannot use RFLink. What do you mean by "RFLink" here, remembering that GSM is an RF link ? See: http://www.8052.com/forum/read/168874 and note carefully the use of words like "unlikely" - avoid definite statements without definite information on which to base them! He can use Telephone Again, a definite statement without definite information on which to base it! Maybe he can, or maybe there is no (usable) telephone service at the location, or he has some other restrictions preventing it, or... with the good old 56k Modem at both ends. One of the very few details that he has provided is that the amount of data is very small: http://www.8052.com/forum/read/168834 For such small volumes of data, the negotiation for 56K will probably take far longer than the the actual data transfer! A simple V.22 modem may actually turn out to be quicker! (or a "56K" modem forced to V.22 mode) ...but since this is old technology; I assumed he might be more interested to use GSM Modem. But then, the same could be said of the 8051... Can you give some more suggestions to connect them? Per has already asked some relevant questions: http://www.8052.com/forum/read/168835 There is little point in trying to guess what resources may or may not be available to this unknown device at the unknown places from which it is required to send[1] its data - it is up to the OP to provide that information. It's also probably not helpful to just flood this thread with all possible uses of any conceivable communication medium that might, possibly, be present! We don't even know if the unit is in a remote location - where comms links may be few - or just in another town, with easy access to comms... Maybe I will use it for other projects. If you have something in mind, probably best to start a new thread... ---- [1] We don't even know if the unit is required to initiate the process of "sending" its data, or if the central site is to initiate the process of "receiving" the data; ie, is it a "push" or a "pull"? |
